What’s Going on in Construction?

The Weber Group is proud to be the builder of an exciting adaptive reuse project at the old East Corbin School in Eastern Kentucky. The project includes 32 units of multifamily housing. Together with architect Steve Kersey we will be working to bring this important structure back to life. Located in Appalachia, Corbin has a high unemployment rate and a number of abandoned structures. By transforming the school into this new affordable apartment building, 33 local jobs will be created and what had become an abandoned eye sore will become an important structure in Corbin. Families near Dallas, Texas have a new place to live, 156 new places actually. Today was the grand opening of Steeple Chase Farms, Sherman, Texas’ first affordable family housing neighborhood. The two and three-story new 156-unit, affordable apartment community consists of 12 one-bedroom, 83 two-bedroom, and 61 three-bedroom units of rental family housing range in size from 839 square feet to 1,167 square feet. Weber Group is the design/builder of the development.  Our client, LDG Development and its Principal, Chris Dischinger remarked, “We are so excited to be unveiling such a wonderful new place to call home. The residents are hard working, deserving people that look for ward to moving here. It’s evident they take pride in where they live and we are thrilled to be able to improve their overall life experience.” The $19.3 milli on project is located one hour Northeast of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.  All units have Energy Star appliances that include a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove and microwave in addition to laminate plank hardwood floors and plush carpeting. There is ample parking plus 2nd and 3rd floor covered balconies AND all units meet Fair Housing Guidelines. Weber extras include a resort-like swimming pool, outdoor playscape for children, a picturesque gazebo with sitting areas and barbeque grills, an indoor communal space with a furnished clubhouse, cinema screen theatre room, kitchen area and a business center with complimentary Wi-Fi on all computers.

Funding for Steeple Chase Farms is made possible through several sources including federal issued tax credits from TDHCA, Stratford Capital Group for equity investment and Comerica Bank for construction and permanent lending.  We are passionate about everyone having a quality place to call home and proud to be part of the project team.

This year Weber Group was proud to be part of the federally funded initiative for vacant, abandoned, and blighted properties to be regentrified as owner-occupied community builders.  The Mid Town neighborhood in quiet New Albany, IN had great housing stock but needed lots of love and care.  Under the direction of New Directions Housing Corporation, Weber Group designed and renovated over 20 single-family  homes.  On December 22, several of the homes were featured on HGTV’s House Hunters as a young teacher, Erin, selects and purchases her first home.  What a way to celebrate the end of a great year!!! We are passionate about many things but having a quality place to call home is high on the list.

We are pleased as punch to say that the 92 unit Towne Comons multi-family housing development opens in Elizabethtown, KY on Thursday, October 20.  Weber Group served as design/builder for the project for LDG Development. Project Manager Justin Solich tells us its Weberized color palette creates a unique and inviting atmosphere for potential residents.  Leasing has been brisk according to the community’s leasing company.

Can’t wait to get to The Edge at Liberty Green today! Touring incoming University of Louisville Medical Students through new apartments.  The 411 on the Weber designed and built Edge: it was designed after extensive focus groups and research with current medical students on what their needs are.  Major bonus: it’s right by UL Hospital.  Can a Wildcat fan say Go Cards for today only?

New Louisville Mayor, Greg Fischer, was on hand with Summit Development to lay a giant cornerstone for the new $8 million Senior Housing Development known as Brookstone. The giant cornerstone helped mark the first affordable senior housing development in the Stonybrook neighborhood. The development is right by a popular movie theater, bank, restaurants, shopping, and most importantly a large single family neighborhood whose residents can’t wait for their parents/grandparents to move close by. The 56 two-bedroom units are for residents aged 55 and older with an income of no more than 60 percent of the area’s median income. Weber Group Inc. is the designer and construction manager.

A beautiful new Weber designed and built senior housing community is set to open in Alvin, Texas.  Alvin is in Metro Houston, Texas and the burgeoning new development is about to bring together two well known Weber service areas: senior housing meet student housing.  Located near Alvin Community College-Alvin’s Cultural Center and home of the Nolan Ryan Baseball Museum, residents of Melbourne Senior Apartments enjoy reduced tuition and full use of campus facilities and amenities in a special arrangement with the College and Louisville based developer, LDG Development.  For the first time in its 60-year history Alvin Community College enrolled 5,200 students a 14% increase over last year.  Houston Newcomer Guides says older students are responsible for much of the College’s growth.  The U-Shaped design encourages conversation and interaction among residents, should be fun to see what unfolds when Melbourne Senior has its official grand opening on May 25!
